Collapse ▲What makes a medal-winning presentation?
The answer to this question lies with three of our 4-H’ers: Amiya Smith, Jayda Walton, and Ja’Nyiah Harvey. Last week, these young ladies traveled to the North Carolina 4-H Congress in Raleigh to showcase their excellence.
The opening presentations began early at Enloe Magnet High School, with our girls competing in the Health and Fitness and Foods and Nutrition categories, respectively.
Jayda and Ja’Nyiah delivered a presentation titled “Meal Prepping On A Budget,” focusing on the realities of living in a food desert and how you can create a healthy and nutritious diet using the resources available to you. The duo impressed the judges with their complementary presentation skills, engaging presentation, and authentic props. Based on their performance, Jayda and Ja’Nyiah were awarded the Bronze medal in the 14-18 age group within the Foods and Nutrition category!
In the Health and Fitness category, Amiya presented “All About Viruses,” a captivating talk on how viruses impact humans and how we might improve our interactions with and responses to these pathogens. Her presentation also included a demonstration of virus-causing germs and how they spread, using simulated germs and a black light. Based on her performance, Amiya was also awarded the Bronze medal in her age group!
We are extremely proud of these young women and hope to see them back in front of the judges next year!
