An older home converted into a restaurant.

Our group, the "Grands Recipe Makeover Group," embarked on a road trip to Belvidere, NC on June 21st. Our first stop was The Nicholson House Restaurant & Gift Shop, a stunning home built in 1892 by Francis H. Nicholason.  He purchased the land for only $150.  Francis was a prominent public figure, serving as Justice of the Peace in 1897 and representing Perquimans County in the General Assembly in 1899. The house boasts several well-preserved public rooms for dining, with original woodwork and the original stained glass doors in the Belvidere Room. We all placed our orders and waited for the food to come out. Our group shared corn nuggets and fried green beans, both cooked to perfection and highly praised by many.

After our meal, we made our way to Layden's Country Store, a charming little place with a butcher at the back and an impressive selection of old-time candies, groceries, and gasoline. We couldn't resist buying their homemade sausage, and many of us left with some in hand. Despite the rain, our adventurous spirits remained high as we concluded our trip and headed back home.
