On the second day of Cloverbud Cooking Camp, the campers were busy making tacos and churros. Before diving into the cooking activities, we kicked off the day with an arts and crafts project. The project for the day involved creating a felt taco, complete with taco meat, lettuce, tomatoes, and hair, which the campers then sealed shut. To add a fun touch, they also adorned the outside of the taco with googly eyes and a mustache.
The kids got to cook ground turkey for tacos. Before starting, we made sure they knew how to stay safe and hygienic when handling raw meat. After washing their hands, they fried and stirred the meat until it was ready, then finally added the taco seasoning and allowed it to simmer.
As some children worked on preparing the meat, the rest of the group mixed the churro batter. Miss Kathy fried the churros and seasoned them after the batter was complete.
While the churros were frying, the campers spent their time painting flower pots which would be used on another day after they had dried.
