Now is the ideal time to start commercial and homeowner soil sampling. Submitting your routine soil samples to the North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services (NCDA&CS) early helps you beat the peak-season rush and is free.

Key Details

  • Cost: Free for routine samples NCDA&CS receives from now through roughly Thanksgiving 2026. ($5 per sample starting after Thanksgiving).
  • Turnaround Time: Currently estimated at 2 weeks.
  • Supplies: Soil boxes and shipping boxes (4-sample and 36-sample sizes) are available for pickup at the Bertie County Extension office.
