We definitely started the cotton season with two different crops.  First, there was the early cotton, planted before May ,5 and then the cotton that was planted after and between the rains, generally between May 20 and June 1. Some of the older cotton has been putting on squares for a while.  Scouting for plant bugs should be going on now and repeated weekly.  When threshold numbers are found, treat with the "softer" chemicals, avoiding the organophosphates and pyrethroids until later in the season, protecting the beneficial insects.  For additional information, see this link go.ncsu.edu/readext?1078406
