We are currently experiencing the hottest days of summer and are looking for ways to stay cool! One option to consider is taking a refreshing swim either at Bertie Beach or in a pool.
4-H Swim Camp
Over the course of two weeks, we had two groups of campers attend a week-long swimming course that covered important water safety tips. In the first week, we transported eleven 9-12-year-olds, and in the second week, we transported eighteen 5-8-year-olds to the YMCA in Elizabeth City for these lessons.
Throughout the first day, campers were acquainted with the water, and our instructors assessed their comfort and proficiency with swimming. On the second day, campers practiced entering the pool safely and submerging their heads underwater. The focus of the third day was on maintaining straight arms and legs while swimming, as it helps propel them forward instead of downward. Day 4 involved learning about boat safety, with campers flipping out of the boat and swimming back to safety, while also practicing turning their heads for breaths. Finally, on the last day, the swim instructors evaluated the campers to gauge their progress and identify areas for improvement such as endurance, floating, kicks, and climbing out of the pool.
We appreciate Ms. Meg and Mr. Miles for being such great instructors. Our campers walked away with new skills and are ready to tackle the water with confidence!
