Collapse ▲Each year, EFNEP hosts a national conference but it’s not often that the Southern Region joins together for collaboration and connection. North Carolina, in true Southern Style, welcomed staff from 21 institutions across the south to downtown Raleigh last week.
“We set out to re-ignite our passion for EFNEP’s mission and we did just that through leadership growth, creative thinking, and powerful collaboration.”
— Lisa Benavente, EFNEP State Coordinator, NC State University
Jones Loflin kicked off the event as our keynote speaker. Jones captivated the group with his presentation titled, Focused as a Bee. His talk resonated with all those in the room with busy lives and a tendency to lose focus. Attendees let the meeting with permission to focus on the task at hand.

This session was followed by a leadership workshop with NC State Cooperative Extensions own Dave Herpy – Extension Organizational Development Coordinator. Dave shared an interactive workshop titled, Empowering Leadership Excellence. This session discussed the leadership compass and individuals determined where they had the most strengths. Dave also provided practical strategies for decision making and prioritizing tasks.

Throughout the conference, attendees had opportunities to connect with colleagues in similar roles and learn new ideas. A big hit was our Programs of Distinction session, highlighting EFNEP educators and the impactful programs in their communities. Our time in Raleigh concluded with a 24-Hour Food Recall Training from Chelsea Bishop & Laura Holt from Texas A&M. This hands on training gave staff practical information they can share with their state to improve data collection.

Thank you to all those involved in the planning committee who made this meeting a success!
